More shoot-out woe for the Saints

TNS v Port Talbot

A LACK of prowess from the penalty spot again cost The New Saints dear as they were dumped out of the quarter-finals by Port Talbot Town.

Steelmen's keeper Lee Kendall was the shoot-out hero, saving the first TNS effort from Scott Ruscoe and netting the winning spot kick himself, after Chris Seargeant had hit the bar.
The Saints took a 14th-minute lead when Chris Marriott's shot was blocked, but the ball found Aeron Edwards who made no mistake from close range.
Talbot levelled after 26 minutes when Martin Rose was unchallenged as he headed-in from a Lloyd Grist corner, and it got worse for the hosts when keeper Paul Harrison's clearance was blocked and Lee John had the simplest of chances to roll the ball into an empty net.
Saints were level within two minutes of the second half whistle, Edwards finding Alex Darlington who blasted the ball past Kendall.
Only a superb save from the Talbot keeper kept out a 25-yarder from Darlington 10 minutes before the end of normal time, but neither side could find a goal in extra-time.
And for the third time in recent seasons, TNS were beaten in the shoot-out.
