Airfield recommended for League Cup final
Sunday 06 December 2009
THE Airfield will be the venue for the Loosemores League Cup final between The New Saints and Rhyl.
Writing in Friday night's match programme for the visit of Bala Town, the Wingmakers' secretary Phil Bailey says the venue has been recommended to stage the showpiece, which will be the first major final to be hosted by the club in the six years since they were promoted to the top flight.
By the time of the game in the spring, Airbus should have completed a new stand at the runway end of the ground, which will bring seating capacity up to 500.
Newtown's Latham Park or Aberystwyth's Park Avenue have traditionally staged recent finals, but Broughton is virtually equidistant between Oswestry and Rhyl and the ground also has a superb playing surface after extensive work during the close season.
