Saints fail to break Airbus deadlock
Wednesday 24 February 2010
THE New Saints missed their chance to return to the top of the Welsh Premier table as they were held to a goal-less draw at Airbus UK Broughton.
Both sides had chances to take the lead in the first-half with the Wingmakers claiming the ball had crossed the line after Rhys Roberts headed against the crossbar from a Geo Feliciello free-kick.
But Tommy Holmes fired against the bar on the half-hour for the Saints after a good exchange of passes with Chris Sharp.
The Saints upped the tempo after the break and laid siege to the home goal, with the best chance to break the deadlock falling to former Wingmaker Craig Jones, who fired over the target after being released by Sharp with only keeper Kristian Rogers to beat.
Rogers did well to keep out efforts from Matthew Berkeley and Sharp, while Steve Evans posed a threat from set-pieces, but the Airbus rearguard held out to deny TNS all three points.
