Scintillating Saints light-up Bonfire Night

TNS v Llanelli

THE New Saints set down a title marker with a scintillating performance to beat third-placed Llanelli in front of the S4/C cameras at Park Hall.

Two goals apiece for Alex Darlington and Greg Draper lit-up a superb first-half performance which simply blew the Reds away before half-time.
All the goals had a touch of class, Scott Ruscoe providing a cross to the far post for Darlington to notch the first after 11 minutes.
Steve Evans then sprang the offside trap for Draper to beat keeper Ashley Morris outside his area and lob into an empty net.
Craig Jones and Simon Spender played a neat one-two down the right hand side before Spender's cross into the box was met with a superb volley into the far corner from Darlington.
And Jones then pushed the ball past Kris Thomas before crossing for Draper to claim his ninth goal of the campaign at the back stick.
Rhys Griffiths had Llanelli's best chance of the half but his header from a Craig Williams cross was superbly saved by Paul Harrison.
But, as the visitors came more into the game after the break, Griffiths found the net with a header after Harrison could only parry a stinging shot from Chris Venables.
When Aeron Edwards was harshly adjudged to have handled on 66 minutes, Griffiths struck again from the penalty spot and went close to another with a header over the bar.
But the Saints regained their composure to close the game out and could well have added a fifth, only for a shot from sub Matty Williams to be headed off the line by Lloyd Grist.
