Evo's header seals a point in south Wales
Wednesday 09 November 2011
A GOAL from Steve Evans ensured The New Saints came away from The Gnoll with a point to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games.
On a rain-soaked night in south Wales, it was Neath that drew first blood when Craig Hughes volleyed a left-foot shot past Paul Harrison from a Jack Lewis cross after 12 minutes.
Craig Jones had a low shot held by home keeper James Wood following a Simon Spender delivery while Alex Darlington's 30-yard free-kick went past the left hand post.
Another fierce Hughes effort was punched away by Harrison before the Saints equalised, Steve Evans heading home at the back stick after Greg Draper had headed-on Pip Baker's long ball.
A great run by Jones ended with Evans sending a header against the far post and his follow-up from the rebound went wide.
A bullet header from Matthew Rees just after the break went narrowly wide of the Saints' goal, while Scott Ruscoe forced Wood to parry a shot.
Home appeals for a penalty were turned down after sub Lee Trundle went down in the box under an Evans challenge and with no further goal action of note, both sides were forced to settle for a point.
