Out-of-sorts Saints crash to Bangor
Out-of-sorts Saints crash to Bangor
Sunday 13 November 2011
BANGOR City earned their first away win at TNS in 13 years as The New Saints put-in a lack-lustre performance to lose 4-3 at Park Hall.
After Greg Draper had miscued a good chance and then headed against the bar inside the first 10 minutes, the visitors gradually began to dominate with Les Davies heading over the bar from a short corner on the right.
Davies fired just wide with another effort and it was no surprise when, five minutes before the break, Michael Johnston's cross to the far post was headed home by Dave Morley.
The visitors' celebrations had barely died down before Scott Ruscoe found Nicky Ward, and the former Bangor player turned to fire past Lee Idzi.
Hopes that the lack-lustre Saints would improve after the break soon dispelled as Mark Smyth converted a left-wing cross and, seven minutes later, Kyle Wilson extended the lead.
Chris Marriott reduced the arrears with a fine individual goal from the edge of the box but, when sub Barry Hogan was adjudged to have handled, Morley stepped-up to restore the two-goal cushion from the penalty spot.
Tom Roberts pulled a goal back with an 18-yarder from a Steve Evans pass to make it 4-3 but, despite a couple of late attacks, City were able to see-out an extended period of stoppage time to claim the points.
