| Matthew Berkeley scores the Saints' equaliser. |
The Robins took an early lead through Shane Sutton's header and the Saints were unable to build on Matthew Berkeley's superbly-taken 20th-minute equaliser.
When keeper Paul Harrison failed to come for a Craig Williams left-wing corner in the fifth minute, Sutton took full advantage to put the visitors in front.
Newtown had the ball in the net again through Craig Moses, who was offside and, after a Barry Hogan shot had been beaten away and a Tommy Holmes header was held by keeper Dave Jones, Berkeley played a one-two with Scott Ruscoe before netting from a tight angle to level the scores.
Harrison did well to save a Newtown header while Alex Darlington's effort from a John Toner flick was ruled-out for offside.
Chances were few and far between after the break, with the Saints producing some neat passing football that lacked any cutting edge.
Toner twice failed to connect with crosses and then miscued from a Craig Williams header that flew past the far post.
But the closest either side came to scoring was a Williams free-kick for Newtown which rattled the crossbar with Harrison beaten.
