Reds visit in 'must-win' game

PRINCIPALITY WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
THE NEW SAINTS v LLANELLI AFC
Saturday 7 Feb 2009 / Park Hall / 2.30
TNS v Llanelli
TNS ran out 3-0 winners against the Reds last season.
IF The New Saints are to have any hope of reclaiming their Welsh Premier crown, Saturday's clash with joint leaders Llanelli is a must-win game.
Level at the the top with Rhyl, who they must face at the end of the season, the Reds are five points ahead of TNS and and have played one game less.
Head coach Andy Cale is backing his new signings to help the cause - the deadline day signing of Welsh international defender Steve Evans will help bolster a defence which has displayed a soft centre in recent weeks - while Conall Murtagh and Matthew Berkeley have both shown promise in their starts for the club.
"We've been playing quite well but lacked a bit of height in defence which Steve will now give us," says Cale.
"We're delighted he has signed, he's been on the fringes at Wrexham under a new manager, but we're confident he will do a good job.
"He will come straight into contention against Llanelli along with the other new signings who we expect will all play a big role for us.
"It's a massive game as we need to win to keep our title hopes alive."
Striker John Toner, who missed the 3-2 Welsh Cup defeat against Carmarthen with a bruised foot, faces a late fitness check while Alfie Carter is still struggling with a calf injury.
The Saints beat Llanelli 3-0 on their last visit to Park Hall, when the Reds had already clinched the title at the end of the last campaign.
