Toner back to boost fading title bid

PRINCIPALITY WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
THE NEW SAINTS v HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY
Saturday 21 Feb 2009 / Park Hall / 2.30
TNS v Haverfordwest
John Toner is denied by County keeper Lee Idzi in last season's Park Hall encounter.
HIGH-flying Haverfordwest County provide the opposition on Saturday as The New Saints bid to get their title challenge back on track.
Hopes have faded following some indifferent results in recent weeks and the west Wales Bluebirds will provide tough opposition, despite the absence through suspension of their leading scorer Jack Christopher.
A disappointing 2-2 draw at Porthmadog last Sunday left the Saints further off the title pace and head coach Andy Cale admits his side cannot afford to drop points today if they are to remain realistic contenders.
John Toner, who fired a hat-trick on his last appearance at Prestatyn, is available again having missed Sunday's encounter to attend his daughter's christening, and is likely to earn a recall upfront after a powder-puff attacking perfomance from his colleagues at The Traeth.
Toner also notched a hat-trick when TNS hammered County 6-2 in the equivalent fixture at Park Hall last season and the visitors have an indifferent record in the fixture.
They have lost on their last five visits since upsetting the Saints' apple cart in 2003 with a 2-1 victory at Treflan that helped dim title hopes.
