Saints looking for boost on Deeside

PRINCIPALITY WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
GAP CONNAH'S QUAY v THE NEW SAINTS
Friday 27 Feb 2009 / Deeside Stadium / 7.30
TNS v Connah's Quay
Alfie Carter, who scored against Quay in the home fixture, is still sidelined with a leg injury.
MIKE Davies admits The New Saints are facing an uphill battle if they hope to lift the Welsh Premier crown after falling off the pace in recent weeks.
Although unbeaten in their last nine games, four of those games have been drawn, leaving the Saints eight points adrift of leaders Rhyl, who also have two games in hand.
Desperately needing a boost from Friday night's trip to Connah's Quay, assistant manager Davies says: "We won't give up, but the title looks out of reach now.
"We'll just keep going and hope we at least qualify for Europe."
Striker Alex Darlington returns from suspension but may struggle to force his way into first-team reckoning, while Alfie Carter remains sidelined as he undergoes tests to determine the extent of a leg injury.
Inconsistent Nomads will be without both Doran twins Phil and Peter, who are away in America, as well as midfielder Keiron Quinn.
The hosts lost 3-2 to Rhyl last weekend, mounting a spirit fightback after going three goals down.
"We played really well second half and looked as if we could get something out of it, but unfortunately we conceded three poor goals in the first half and the handicap was just too big to close, says Quay boss Steve O'Shaughnessy.
TNS have beaten Connah's Quay three times this season, twice in the Loosemores League Cup and once in the Welsh Premier.
