The former Walsall and AFC Telford frontman had not played since Boxing Day, when he appeared and scored in the 3-1 win against Welshpool.
He started the road back to match fitness on Monday, only to sustain a broken toe in a tackle with Alex Darlington.
It means that Carter has played in just nine Welsh Premier games this season in yet another injury hit campaign.
Placed on the transfer list a year ago, the 28-year-old remained at the club where he has an excellent strike rate of 27 goals from his 47 (+19) league appearances.
He damaged knee ligaments not long after signing in August 2005 and again suffered long injury absences in both of the following seasons.
