SAINTS' head coach Andy Cale was delighted with the Loosemores League Cup victory over Bangor City at Newtown's Latham Park.
"We didn’t win anything last year so it's nice to capture the League Cup and if we can now qualify for Europe it will have been a good season," he said.
"Winning this trophy is great for the club, its supporters and the players who showed great character to go on and win after we went down to 10 men, I thought the players were superb."
Assistant boss Mike Davies also praised the performance: "It was a blow to go down to 10 men against a good side like Bangor, but we had the confidence to keep the ball in the second half and defended really well. We were well worth the win," he said.
TNS were handed a great opportunity to open their account on 11 minutes when City defender Jamie Brewerton shoved Steve Evans in the back and John Leah made no mistake from the spot, his third penalty success in two games.
But the task got harded three minutes before half-time, when Matthew Berkeley was red-carded by referee Phil Southall for an off-the-ball incident spotted by assistant Maldwyn Williams.
Les Davies almost levelled immediately, but keeper Paul Harrison tipped his effort onto the bar and was rarely troubled in the second half, despite City pressure from set-pieces.
And Conall Murtagh made the game safe on 75 minutes, sweeping the ball into an empty net from six yards after Alex Darlington had mesmerised the City defence and keeper Paul Smith down the byline.
