Saints win as four take final bow

WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
THE NEW SAINTS 1-0 AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON
Sat 25 April 2009 / Park Hall
Alex Darlington
Alex Darlington scored the Saints' winner.
FOUR players made farewell appearances as The New Saints brought the curtain down on a generally disappointing campaign, which saw them finish outside the Welsh Premier's top two for the first time in eight years.
Alex Darlington scored the only goal of the game as TNS avenged defeat by Airbus earlier in the season, one of several mortal wounds in their quest for the title.
The striker headed past Wingmakers' keeper Phil Palethorpe at the far post in the 33rd-minute following a cross from Craig Williams, but there was little else to excite the crowd in a low key, end of season affair.
The visitors came closest to an equaliser on 67 minutes when Ashley Williams rattled a post, while Craig Williams saw a shot beaten away by the visiting keeper in a game of few chances.
Duane Courtney, Robbie Williams, John Leah and substitute John Toner made their final bow after being released along with Alfie Carter and Steve Connor and the remainder of the squad that accept terms will return on May 18 to prepare for another European campaign.
