THE New Saints hope to stage this season's Europa League first qualifying round tie at Park Hall after getting the green light for their planning application from Shropshire County Council this afternoon.
Despite some local objections, plans for 3,000 seats at the stadium were approved and it is hoped to complete work on the first phase of 1,000 in time for the home leg of the Euro tie.Residents had claimed the location is unsuitable for the size of the operation and feared an increase in unsociable behaviour, disturbance from crowds, traffic and the PA system, and additional light pollution.
But officers reported to Shropshire County Council that there has been a sports ground on the site since Park Hall was an army camp and highways experts say traffic can be satisfactorily managed and mitigated.
"There is clearly the potential for occasional increased noise from important games or functions, but the proposed seating would help to contain noise and make the current situation no worse," says their report.
Councillors were recommended to approve the application, subject to the implementation of a green travel plan, which the club successfully put into action when more than 2,000 people attended an academy finals day three weeks ago.
