Berkeley goal beats Llansantffraid Village

Llansantffraid v TNS

The New Saints made a nostalgic return to Treflan for the first time in two years for the first of what is proposed as an annual challenge match against their successors at the ground, Llansantffraid Village.

A mixture of first teamers, trialists and youth teamers won a closely-contested game 1-0, the only goal of the night arriving soon after the break when half-time sub Matthew Berkeley turned in a short byline cross from trialist Mark Pritchard.
Former TNS youth keeper Jimmy Haynes was the star of the show in the first half with some fine saves, while the Villagers made two goal-line clearances and Barry Hogan hammered a shot against the woodwork.
Sub keeper Rees Jones, son of Llansantffraid manager Ray, did well to tip a header over the bar with his first touch and made another good stop from a John McKenna header.
Former TNS and Caersws frontman Nathan Prodger went closest for the hosts, sending a shot across the face of goal and just wide of the far post, while Chris Seargeant's last-minute individual effort was ruled-out by the referee to leave the Saints the narrow winners.
