Duane signs for the Harriers

RELEASED by The New Saints at the end of last season, defender Duane Courtney has signed a one-year deal with Kidderminster Harriers.
Harriers’ management team both know Courtney well - he played alongside assistant boss Neil Howarth at AFC Telford before becoming a £27,000 player in a switch to Burnley in 2005, when Kiddy boss Mark Yates was on the coaching staff at Turf Moor.
The 24-year-old right-back made 66 Welsh Premier appearances for the Saints after joining from the Clarets in September 2006.
A schoolboy with Derby County, Courtney was a trainee at Birmingham City and, after being voted Telford's player of the season in 2004/5, attracted attention from several Football League clubs, with Burnley beating Wolverhampton Wanderers to his signature.
After finding first-team opportunities hard to come by at Turf Moor, he was put on the transfer list after making just one full appearance and seven from the bench.
Courtney won a Welsh Premier championship medal in his first season with TNS and was named in the 2006/7 Welsh Premier team of the season by the league's managers.
"They knew what to expect of me anyway, but it was good to come down and get to know the lads before signing and I enjoy it here. I probably should have come here a lot sooner," says Courtney.
"I had the chance to a couple of years back but, coming from Burnley, I felt at the time I needed to play at as high a level as I could."
