Robins provide cup opposition
Robins provide cup opposition
Tuesday 01 September 2009
DARREN Ryan's Newtown are the visitors on Tuesday night as The New Saints defend their 100% start to the season and the Loosemores League Cup.
Saints kicked-off their group games with a 2-0 win at Bangor City's Farrar Road a week ago, while the Robins were beaten at home by the same opponents in their opening game/
A win for TNS tonight would go a long towards securing a place in the quarter-finals, while the visitors would face a virtually impossible task in their remaining fixtures.
Ryan will most probably hand a debut to new on-loan signing from Wrexham, Obi Anoruo, a young striker of Nigerian origin with a goal-a-game record for the Dragons' youth side.
Experienced former Haverfordwest midfielder Dylan Blain made his first start for Newtown in the 1-1 draw at Neath on Friday night and, if selected, the game will also see a return for Nicky Ward, who remains a popular figure since leaving TNS at the end of season 2006/7 and trained at Park Hall with some of his former team-mates during pre-season.
