Welsh Cup trail starts at Conwy

FAW Welsh Cup

THE Saints start out on the Welsh Cup trail on Saturday with a second round tie away to Welsh Alliance minnows Conwy United.

It is 10 years since TNS last played at the Morfa Stadium, winning a Welsh Premier fixture 5-4 with goals from Ben Hatton, Timmy Edwards, Leon Gierke and a brace from Tim Alexander.
The fortunes of Saturday's opponents have diverged wildly since then - the Saints have gone on to win four league titles, while United - whose side that day featured John Toner - have slipped down to the third tier of the Welsh football pyramid.
Not long after a 7-0 hammering at Treflan in which Toner, now signed by TNS, fired a hat-trick, the Musselmen were relegated and went straight into the Alliance.
They have never looked likely to recapture their glory days but currently lie fifth with 11 points from seven games.
But Andy Cale will be wary of a potential banana skin - the Saints had a close shave at another Alliance ground - Pwllheli - before securing a 2-1 win three years ago.
Defender Steve Evans is still feeling the effects of an injury picked-up in training, which ruled him out of the game against Newtown last week, and is unlikely to feature.
