ASSISTANT manager Mike Davies was relieved to have avoided a potential Welsh Cup shock as The New Saints overcame Conwy United 2-0 in extra-time at a windswept Morfa.

"The conditions were difficult and Conwy were a credit to their club," he said.
"There is always going to be a banana skin in the cup and I'm just glad it wasn't us.
"We kept playing football and got what we deserved in the end."
After Jamie Wood had seen a first-half penalty saved by man-of-the-match Richard Dolphin, it was a long wait until Craig Williams finally broke the deadlock, chasing down Phil Baker's long ball to lob over the keeper and into the net from 15 yards.
Steve Abbott duly added another in the second period of extra-time to set-up a third round tie away to Welsh Leaguers Cambrian & Clydach Vale.
Home boss Barry Jones also praised his side: "They performed better than ever and we could have snatched a win in the second half.
"A strong wind caused us problems in the first half and it was backs to the wall stuff, but we had five players in midfield and they contained TNS, who played the ball around a lot.
"Jamie Jones and Ricky Jones worked their socks off and our keeper, Richard Dolphin, made a couple of brilliant saves, one from a penalty and the other in turning a tremendous shot around a post.
"In the second half, we more than matched TNS, our keeper was hardly troubled and Matt Bennett raced clear for a one-on-one situation with their keeper, who made a great stop."
