Druids bid to end poor record at TNS
Druids bid to end poor record at TNS
Wednesday 04 November 2009
THE first of five games in a hectic and crucial 17-day spell sees Elements Cefn Druids visit Park Hall on Friday night.
In a game which will mark the 300th Welsh Premier appearance for Ancients' stalwart Aled Rowlands, the visitors are bidding to end an eight-game losing sequence in their visits to The New Saints.
And defender Rowlands has good reason to remember the last time his side avoided defeat on the road to TNS - he was red-carded as goals from Gary Powell and Nicky Ward completed a comeback from 3-1 down as the Saints gained a 3-3 draw at Treflan in February 2001.
Druids are currently struggling near the foot of the table with just one win to their credit this season, a 1-0 home success against Porthmadog.
After a run of three successive home draws in the league, a victory is essential for Andy Cale's men ahead of two difficult tests in the days ahead - an away trip to Llanelli and a home game with Rhyl.
And the two Loosemores League Cup semi-final ties against Port Talbot Town mean a busy time ahead for the squad, who are all fit for action, apart from long-term injury absentee Alex Darlington.
The former Wrexham midfielder is still awaiting the results of a scan on a foot injury sustained in pre-season at Colwyn Bay.
