Guils swoop for ex-TNS midfielder Davies
Saturday 21 November 2009
FORMER TNS midfielder Mark Davies had barely returned to his home from a spell in the US before being snapped-up by Cymru Alliance outfit Guilsfield.
A product of the TNS scholarship scheme, Davies appeared five (+3) times in the Welsh Premier for the Saints as well as enjoying successful spells with Newtown and Caersws, before coaching six to 18 year-olds in the USA through his involvement with UK Elite Soccer.
He split his time between Seattle and New Jersey and his experiences State-side have whetted his appetite for further travelling, while working towards attaining his UEFA 'B' coaching licence.
"Mark is pure class,” said Guils' manager and ex-TNS keeper Mike Barton. "We were keen to get him on board as soon as possible and we were delighted that he immediately agreed to throw in his lot with his home village club.
"We are under no illusions that bigger clubs will be trying to sign him during the January window, but until then he is our player and we hope to give him a start this weekend."
Davies rebuffed interest from Aberystwyth Town following his release by The New Saints and opted to join Caersws - making 22 starts last season for the struggling Bluebirds, before leaving in the summer to pursue his coaching ambitions.
