Saints sparkle in Aberystwyth rout
Friday 11 December 2009
THE New Saints sparkled under the Park Hall lights as Aberystwyth were sent packing on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline.
A brace apiece from wingers Craig Jones and Craig Williams sealed the success, while keeper Paul Harrison was never seriously tested as the Saints extended their clean sheet to 896 minutes.
Alex Darlington had come closest to scoring in the first-half when denied by Steven Cann but, two minutes after the break the deadlock was broken when the keeper could only parry a stinging 20-yard shot from Alex Darlington, and Jones got his head to the ball to nod into an empty net.
Three minutes later, Jones crossed for Williams to sidefoot the second from six yards.
Darlington was just wide of the target with a free-kick before a great pass from sub Chris Seargeant found Williams who finished coolly for the third.
Scott Ruscoe saw his shot fly just wide of the far post, while Seargeant hit the post from a narrow angle, before Jones completed his brace from a breakaway in stoppage time to cap a great all-round performance.
