Saints' title hopes ebb away at Druids
Friday 19 March 2010
THE New Saints saw their Welsh Premier title hopes pretty much washed away in the Plas Kynaston rain as they were held to a goal-less draw by bottom club Elements Cefn Druids.
Home keeper Chris Mullock was the hero, saving a Chris Sharp penalty just after half-time, which would surely have set the Saints on the path to victory.
With the Ancients' goal under siege for most of the second-half, Mullock also produced a string of fine saves and blocks, denying Sharp twice and Craig Williams within the space of a couple of minutes.
Scott Ruscoe's surging run ended with a shot that went wide, while Sharp headed wide from a Chris Marrriott cross.
Mullock again rescued the hosts from a Sharp flick and, seconds later, Craig Jones headed wide from Ruscoe's corner.
Aled Evans had brought a good save from Paul Harrison on the stroke of half-time and Druids almost scored a breakaway goal later in the game, when Josh Russell was put in by Josh Griffiths.
But it was Mullock who had the last word deep into stoppage time, saving another of Sharp's efforts.
