PARK Hall will stage a charity memorial match in honour of one of its best-known local footballers, Richard Evans, who died of cancer last year.

Oswestry-based Evans netted a total of 483 goals during a glittering career in mid-Wales football with Welshpool, Newtown, Llanidloes, Tywyn and Caersws in the 1970s and 1980s.
He also enjoyed spells with Oswestry Town and was a prolific scorer in Sunday League football for both Shrewsbury-based Instones and The Bell of Oswestry.
Now friends of the late Mr Evans (nicknamed Chinky) are staging a match at Park Hall between Manchester City Vets and a Border Counties XI made up of his former team mates.
The game takes place on Sunday April 18 with a 2.30pm kick-off and all proceeds will go to the Bobby Moore Fund For Cancer Research.
Organisers are selling tickets to a three course pre-match lunch with 10-seat tables available at £200.
Graham Jones, a former business and playing colleague of Richard Evans, said: "Tickets are already in big demand for the luncheon, marking the great respect that exists for Richard across a wide area of the Border Counties.
"We are extremely grateful to Mike Harris, owner of The New Saints FC, who has donated a trophy and given use of The Venue free of charge," he added.

Richard Evans was a partner in the wealth management company of Kerry Evans & Co and at the time of his death was also a director of Technogroup Welshpool FC.
