Rhyl win guarantees European football
Saturday 03 April 2010
THE New Saints' 2-1 win at Rhyl ensured a place in European competitions for the eleventh consecutive season.
While Chris Sharp's 94th-minute winner kept the Saints' bid to regain the Welsh Premier title and return to the Champions League very much alive, it also means that the club are guaranteed at least third place in the league and an appearance in next season's Europa League.
Sharp conjured a goal out of nothing with a superb 20-yarder with virtually the last kick of the game at Belle Vue, as there was just time for a restart before referee Lee Evans called time on the proceedings.
It might have been cruel on the Lillies, who had battled well with 10 men for all of the second-half, but the Saints again showed their determination to never give up.
