Llanelli win again to stay in title race
Llanelli win again to stay in title race
Thursday 22 April 2010
THE New Saints will need at least a point from their visit to Aberystwyth Town's Park Avenue to be crowned Welsh Premier champions.
Llanelli ensured that the title race will go down to the wire with a 3-1 win over Rhyl on Thursday night, their third win in six days.
The Reds ended Rhyl's European dreams, despite falling behind to a 15th-minute Andrew Pearson goal.
Jordan Follows brought the scores level within three minutes and Rhys Griffiths then gave the Reds the lead on the half-hour.
Griffiths, the league's leading marksman, scored again from the penalty spot on 73 minutes, his fifth in three games, taking his tally to 27 for the current league campaign.
Llanelli are now within two points of TNS and need to win their final game at Prestatyn Town on Saturday by a substantial margin if TNS gain at least a point on the road.
The Saints' goal difference is +54 compared to Llanelli's +49.
