Saints renew ties with the Glenmen
Wednesday 02 June 2010
THE New Saints will renew acquaintance and friendships with Glentoran when they visit Belfast's Oval, home of last season's Carling Premiership third-placed club, on Saturday June 26 (3.00pm).
In a pre-Europe friendly which maintains the excellent relationship between the two clubs, the Saints return to the Ulster venue for the first time since July 2007, when they lost 3-0, having won 2-1 a year earlier in a game arranged as a testimonial for Glenmen's stalwart Chris Walker.
Barry Hogan and John Toner scored the goals on that occasion, while Glentoran ran out 1-0 winners at Treflan in July 2005, the first occasion that the sides had met, when an Irish invasion on a memorable afternoon swelled the gate to 802.
TNS will be back in the Province a week later to meet the other member of Belfast's 'big two' and Glentoran's greatest rivals Linfield.
