SAINTS' boss Mike Davies was in Brussels on Friday night to watch Champions League opponents Anderlecht lift the Belgian Super Cup.
The champions warmed-up for Tuesday night's visit to Wrexham's Racecourse Ground with a reasonably convincing 1-0 victory over Cup holders KAA Gent, in the equivalent of England's Charity Shield fixture. The only goal of the game arrived on 31 minutes with a trademark lightning-quick counter attack when Lucas Biglia threaded a pass through to Cheikhou Kouyate, who kept his cool and slotted the ball past keeper Jorgacevic.
Anderlecht's have four Argentinians and a Brazilian striker in their multi-national squad, which also includes the two highest-paid footballers in the domestic league.
Mbark Boussoufa is a three-times winner of the Belgian footballer of the year award, who has also won the domestic Golden Boot and joined Anderlecht in a €3.5 million transfer deal.
Midfielder Jan Polak, who made his return from an injury lay-off as a substitute in last night's game, is a Czech Republic international who played alongside Petr Čech and Milan Baroš for the Under-21s, and was transferred from Czech Premier League team Slovan Liberec for a fee of €1,500,000 to Nuremberg in the Bundesliga, before arriving at RSCA in August 2007 in a €3.5 million deal, the second most expensive transfer in Anderlecht's history.
