Euro success down to whole squad
Euro success down to whole squad
Tuesday 27 July 2010
THE New Saints' European success to date is a squad effort, says manager Mike Davies, ahead of tonight's big clash with Anderlecht (7.45pm).
"Having a squad of 23 for the European games may seem like a luxury, but it also means I have some difficult decisions to make," he says.
"But that’s a responsibility I take on.
"We have not got this far because we have got 11 good players, it’s been a squad effort."
Davies has a fully-fit squad for tonight’s game and admits TNS will take a cautious approach to the first leg as they look to give themselves a chance going into the return leg next week.
"We’ve got to give them a certain amount of respect and we don’t have to go for it like we did in the second leg of the Bohemians tie ," he added.
"The first 20 minutes will be important to get ourselves into the game and see what they are like.
"The squad has every reason to be confident because we’ve got this far and deserve to be in the third round.
"It is going to be a fantastic occasion for everyone involved with TNS and the lads are keen to make sure they don’t let themselves down."
