CSKA Sofia lose their manager
CSKA Sofia lose their manager
Monday 16 August 2010
CSKA Sofia's head coach Pavel Dochev has quit just three days before the Bulgarians host The New Saints in the Europa League play-offs first leg.
CSKA have made a poor start to the new "A" League campaign, a point at newly-promoted Rakovski on Saturday their first in three games since the domestic season kicked-off.
Despite leading twice through goals from Delev and Marquinos, CSKA were held at the sixth-placed club, although the point did move them off the bottom of the table.
They lost their opening two league fixtures 1-0 to city rivals PFC Levski Sofia and 2-1 against PFC Chernomorets Burgas.
"There were many difficulties and obstacles," said former Bulgarian international defender Dotchev, who lost one of his leading players last week - Frenchman Elliot Grandin, who made his debut for Blackpool in Saturday's 4-0 win at Wigan.
"I didn't have support in my work but I'm leaving with my head held high."
The 44-year-old was only handed the reins in May at the end of the 2009/10 campaign, but has endured a disappointing start to his tenure.
CSKA say they expect to name a new coach within the next few days.
