Neath game off, Bala re-arranged
Neath game off, Bala re-arranged
Tuesday 17 August 2010
THE New Saints' Welsh Premier fixture at Neath on Sunday has been postponed, while the visit of Bala Town has been re-arranged.
Management and players flew out to Bulgaria this morning ahead of Thursday's Europa League play-off first leg against CSKA Sofia and are unable to return home until Saturday due to the unavailability of flights back to the UK.
Scheduled to face Neath on the Friday night, TNS sought a postponement until later in the season, but the Eagles originally insisted that their opponents travel to south Wales on the Sunday, despite the fact they would not be arriving back in Oswestry until 7.30pm on Saturday night at the earliest after a coach trip from Gatwick Airport.
Under a recently-introduced Welsh Premier rule designed to help domestic clubs in Europe, the game has now been postponed. It states that "clubs shall not be required to play league matches 72 hours prior to, or 72 after a commitment in UEFA club competitions."
However, despite hosting CSKA at Wrexham on Thursday August 26, the Saints are happy to host Bala Town at home three days later on Sunday August 29 (14.30), a game which has been re-arranged from the previous Friday.
