Tributes to former Saint Tony Windsor

TRIBUTES have been paid to Tony Windsor, a member of the Saints' squad that won the Welsh Cup in 1996, who has died at the age of 47.
A midfielder who skippered the reserves in the Mid Wales League, Windsor - a popular father-of-three - also made three League of Wales appearances for the Saints in season 1993/4, appearing as a sub on six other occasions.
Described as a “true gentleman in every sense of the word” and “one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet”, Tony - who lived in Welshpool - died after months courageously battling against cancer.
He leaves behind his wife Lin, sons, Chris and Mathew and daughter Steph.
A highly respected man in Mid Wales, he worked as the ICT Business Systems Manager for Powys County Council, having originally joined the old Montgomeryshire District Council over 20 years ago.
"It was a privilege to have known him," said Llansanffraid Village manager Ray Jones.
"When I first managed the club in 1989, Tony was my captain and I never came across anyone better.
"He was a born leader that was respected by players, management, fans and committee alike, a true gentleman in every sense of the word, he was a role model and showed great dignity in fighting his illness.
"All of us at Llansanffraid are devastated to have lost such a tremendous person and our thoughts are with Lin and the children.”
Tony began his football career with Waterloo Rovers before moving to Llansanffraid and, later in his career, he returned to the club and spent four or five years running the youth team.
