But, for the first half-hour, an upset looked on the cards and the Steelmen could well have been three goals to the good.
With the home defence uncharacterisically at sixes and sevens, Talbot harried and pressed to good effect and had the ball in the net after five minutes, but Liam McCreesh had his effort ruled out for shouting out of turn.
Five minutes later Luke Bowen made no mistake when he found space and time inside the box to pick his spot and fire past keeper Paul Harrison.
And Martin Rose nearly extended the lead when his shot from a narrow angle hit a post.
TNS striker Chris Sharp was stretchered-off with an ankle injury after 36 minutes and the introduction of sub Jamie Wood sparked the Saints' into action.
An incisive run into the box by Craig Jones ended with a pass to the far post, where Richie Partridge somehow squeezed the ball under the body of keeper Lee Kendall to level the scores.
Wood hit a post after outpacing full-back Leigh De-Vulgt before the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Danny Holmes got on the end of a long ball from Steve Evans and held-off Matthew Rees before firing into the far corner.
If TNS had been average in the first 45 minutes, they were imperious after the break and soon added to their lead, Matty Williams beating Rees before threading a pass to Jones, who netted from six yards.
Goal scorer Bowen then turned from hero to villain, upending Danny Holmes in the box, and Scott Ruscoe made no mistake from the penalty spot.
TNS continued to create a host of chances with Kendall earning his corn with some good stops. But he was beaten again when, with his first touch, sub Alex Darlington set-up Williams for the fifth.
Kendall pulled-off a brilliant save to keep out a Williams header but could only watch as Barry Hogan smashed a 22-yarder into the top corner to put the icing on the cake.
"The first half hour wasn't the greatest but the lads can be proud of the way they recovered, we pulled our socks up and got it sorted" said TNS boss Mike Davies.
"We could have gone 3-0 up but it was a great exhibition by TNS, they absolutely ruined us," admitted Talbot manager Mark Jones.
"Probably the worst thing for us was Sharp getting injury because Woody came on and pulled a few strings and, when they put Williams up top, he kept popping up in holes we were filling up before.
"It's a long time since myself or the club have had a beating like that but, on their day, TNS are capable of doing it to you, you just don't want to be on the end of it."
