Davies bids to close the gap at Bangor

THE New Saints have a chance to close the gap on early pacesetters Bangor City in a crucial top of the table Welsh Premier clash at Farrar Road on Saturday.
The Saints lag eight points behind the Citizens, with a game in hand, and manager Mike Davies is targeting three points from the live televised encounter (3.45pm).
"It's too early to decide anything, but it's important we do make ground on them, close the gap," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"Credit where it's due - Bangor have had a great start. But we'll make it very difficult for them."
Davies believes the standard of the league has risen, and he needs to keep his squad on their toes.
"The league is stronger this year with just the top 12 teams instead of 18, which means there are more players for the 12 to choose.
"The standard is getting harder, every game is tough and like a cup tie.
"You've got to approach it right or you'll get punished.
Bangor have won seven out of seven to take an early lead in the table, with the Saints in second place, but Davies insists the eight-point gap is far from insurmountable.
"Last season we had to come up on the rails to overtake Llanelli," he said.
"That was late on - we don't want to leave it that late.
"We'll get our heads down and concentrate on each game in turn - and the next one is Bangor."
