Evo's contribution won't be forgotten

Steve EvansDESPITE a career blighted by off-field misdemeanours, Steve Evans made an immense contribution to TNS during his 10 seasons with the club.

His towering presence in the centre of defence contributed massively to four Welsh Premier league titles, and he was one of the first people to be inducted into the Saints' hall of fame two years ago.
But his talents only received wider recognition when he left to join manager Denis Smith at Wrexham in June 2006 and almost immediately won a call-up to the full Welsh squad, having previously represented his country at semi-professional level.
In his first season at the Racecourse, when Wrexham were in League Two, he was also voted player of the season.
Steve first arrived at Treflan from Crewe Alexandra in February 2000 and played a role in the club's first-ever league championship success.
He was a member of the Saints' side that won the title twice again in 2004/5 (when he was Welsh Premier player of the season) and 2005/6, and also picked-up a Welsh Cup winner's medal in the 1-0 win over Carmarthen Town in May 2005.
Since returning to Park Hall in February 2009, he has again been hugely influential in a defence which conceded a miserly league record 13 goals on the way to the league and league cup double last season.
Many of the 30 Welsh Premier goals he has scored have come at vital moments for the club and his dismissal at Prestatyn last month was, perhaps surprisingly, his first in a league game in green and white.
Steve also appeared 14 times in Europe for the Saints, scoring home and away against Fram Reykjavik and at CSKA Sofia.
Whatever the future holds for this likeable but sometimes flawed personality, he has etched his name into the club's record books for all time.
