Saints bid to end seven-year itch

Port Talbot v TNSTHE New Saints bid to end a seven-year wait for a victory at Port Talbot Town when they visit the GenQuip Stadium on Saturday

The last time the Saints tasted a Welsh Premier success away to the Steelmen was a 4-1 win in Spetember 2003. Since then, there have been three draws and three defeats, culminating in a 2-0 loss last season when Liam McCreesh grabbed a brace for the hosts.
Saints' manager Mike DaviesĀ  hopes that leading scorer Matty Williams will have shrugged-off a back spasm to return to the line-up, but wingman Craig Jones is set to miss-out.
Home boss Mark Jones was left stunned after watching his side taken apart by runaway league leaders Bangor City at Farrar Road last week, despite receiving his November manager of the month award ahead of kick-off.
"We need to put last week behind us and move on," says Jones.
"We were all hurt by events at Bangor, but it's in the past and we have to focus on what we achieved in the five matches leading up to that game.
"TNS is a massive test for us and we have to be mentally strong. The first 20 minutes or so are important as we cannot afford to leak several early goals, otherwise heads might start to drop.
"The experienced players have a big role to play and they have to stand up and be counted.
"I'd settle for a point as Saints are a superb side. I'm just glad we are not playing them on their plastic pitch as they have been invincible up there," Jones added.
"They hammered us 6-1 earlier in the season and we certainly don't want another result like that."
