Wanners called-up for New Year's Day reunion

Wayne Evans and Mike DaviesTHE New Year's Day clash between The New Saints and Newtown will be an old boys' reunion in more ways than one.

Not only will the Saints come up against former head coach Andy Cale and goalkeeping coach Lee Williams, but the Robins have succeeded in persuading Wayne Evans out of retirement to answer an SOS call.
The visitors' ranks are seriously depleted with TNS trio John McKenna, Sean Jones and Craig Whitfield, their leading scorer, ineligible to play.
Midfielder Shane Sutton is suspended and ex-TNS favourite Marc Lloyd Williams, the Welsh Premier's all-time leading marksman, is unavailable due to work commitments.
So Cale has turned to 39-year-old Evans, who made 432 Football League appearances for Walsall and Rochdale and also played a season in the Conference with Kidderminster Harriers.
He then teamed-up with TNS boss Mike Davies to coach the youngsters before leaving to work in Canada and the club connections don't end there - his brothers Gary and Ian were both Llansantffraid stalwarts.
Both sides will be happy to return to action after an enforced winter snow break and Wednesday night's fogged-off affair against Llanelli.
The Saints are at fully strength with the exception of wing back Chris Marriott, who is suspended, with kick-off at 2.30pm.
