Saints to make county cup debut
Sunday 16 January 2011
THE New Saints have accepted an invitation to participate in the Shropshire Senior Cup this summer.
Along with Market Drayton Town, TNS have been offered a spot in the 2011/12 edition of the county cup competition.
It marks a change in direction by the Shropshire FA, who have been happy to have a one-off match played between Shrewsbury and Telford in the last two years.
It will be a first appearance in the competition for the Saints, and officials at Park Hall are relishing the chance to mix it with their county neighbours.
"It’s great for us to be involved and to test ourselves against quality teams," said manager Mike Davies.
"A lot of people in Shropshire may not know much about us, so this is a chance for us to show what we’re about. We’re delighted to be involved, everyone’s very excited about it.
"We played Telford last year in pre-season, we really enjoyed that," he added. "It was a good game, they are a terrific team with an excellent manager in Andy Sinton.
"And to have the chance of playing a Football League side like Shrewsbury is another big challenge for us, one we’re all looking forward to."
