Sharpy targets title and a new deal
Friday 18 February 2011
CHRIS Sharp has targeted winning the Welsh Premier League title and proving he is fully fit to win a new contract with The New Saints.
"Qualifying for Europe is a massive deal for me and for the club," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"The previous few months have been disappointing for me with suspensions and injuries, but I want to stay."
Sharp has scored nine goals this season for the Saints, with one against Irish side Bohemians in the Champions League.
But he has only played in half their games, and is 10 goals behind leading scorer Matty Williams.
"It's been frustrating," said last season's top scorer, "but hopefully I can kick off again at the start of the League split, get a few games under my belt and show what I can do.
"My contract's up at the end of the season," added Sharp - the son of ex-Everton and Scotland player Graeme Sharp. "We're trying to sort things out, but I have no intention of moving.
"Europe's a big draw. I've played four games in the Champions League, and I've been lucky enough to score, so yes - that's a big reason to stay."
