THE New Saints moved one point clear at the top of the Welsh Premier after being held to a goal-less draw in Port Talbot. They failed to take full advantage of Bangor City's home defeat to Prestatyn Town on Friday night but, for the second week running, the Steelmen frustrated one of the title challengers, after drawing 2-2 at Farrar Road in their last game.
The GenQuip Stadium has rarely been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Saints, who shaded the chances created in a game that had nil-nil written all over it, especially in the first half.
Home keeper David Cornell parried efforts from Aeron Edwards and Matty Williams, with Kye Edwards heading wide for Talbot from a Lee John free-kick.
Williams hooked wide from Matthew Berkeley's through ball, but visiting keeper Paul Harrison was forced to block a Luke Bowen effort.
Jones headed wide of the target and Chris Sharp saw his effort saved by Cornell's legs, but Tommy Holmes was unlucky to see his diving header hit the foot of a post three minutes from time from a Craig Jones cross.
