A DAY after the Royal Wedding, it was the The New Saints who were bridesmaids as Bangor City clinched the Welsh Premier title with a 1-0 win at Farrar Road.
Boss Mike Davies suffered a blow before kick-off with leading scorer Matty Williams failing to shake of an injury to make the squad, but a patched-up Phil Baker took his place in the backline.
Needing only a draw to retain the crown themselves, the Saints were undone by City's weapon of choice all season, a Peter Hoy long throw, which was headed on by Dave Morley for Garside to toe-poke home at the near post in the 68th-minute.
Chances had been at a premium as both sides struggled on a bone-hard surface, with Chris Jones going closest for the hosts with a first-half shot that was well tipped-away by keeper Paul Harrison.
Craig Jones had a chance at the other end before the break, but his half-struck effort failed to trouble Paul Smith in the City goal.
Chris Jones fired a well-struck shot straight at Harrison on the hour but, with former City defender Baker forced-off, the Blues took advantage immediately with Garside's goal.
Keeper Smith just held on to a Chris Sharp effort from outside the box, while sub Matthew Berkeley hit the side netting after a good run.
Morley's looping header came close to doubling Bangor's lead but was headed off the line by Jones and, with the Saints' last chance, Scott Ruscoe fired over the bar from 20-yards to leave the City faithful to celebrate.
