EUROPEAN preparations got underway on Sunday as The New Saints comfortably beat an Anglesey squad who are heading for the Island Games at the end of the month. With the exception of goalkeeper Alex Ramsey, the Saints fielded different line-ups in each half, with the first-period producing all the goals.
After Charlie Proctor had gone close early on, he rounded-off a move in the 15th-minute after Barry Hogan had found Craig Jones on the right with a superb pass.
Two minutes later, Alex Darlington netted from close range at the far post after some confusion in the visitors' defence and then crashed home a drive from the edge of the box just before the half-hour from a Marcus Giglio lay-off following a corner.
Darlington then opened-up Ynys Mon again with a defence splitting pass that enabled Aeron Edwards to beat the offside trap and cross for Proctor to grab his second of the afternoon.
A revamped Saints failed to improve the scoreline after the break, although Richie Partridge and Chris Sharp both went close only to be denied by keeper Paul Pritchard, while the Islanders were unable to test Ramsey in the home goal throughout the whole 90 minutes.
Saints: Ramsey, Spender, Baker, Johnson, Giglio, Hogan, C Williams, Edwards, Darlington, C Jones, Proctor. Subs: Ruscoe, Evans, Marriott, Sharp, Rawlinson, McKenna, Berkeley, Partridge, A Jones, Trialist.
