Saints aim to be a hit on opening night

TNS squadTHE New Saints raise the curtain on the new Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League season when they host big-spending Bala Town at Park Hall on Friday night (7.45pm). Having missed out on the title to Bangor City last season, the summer has seen director of football Mike Davies ring the changes at Park Hall in a bid to get the club back on top.
“It is nice to be opening our campaign on a Friday night at Park Hall,” said Davies. “Bala have made some good signings, so it should be an interesting game.
“We obviously want to get off to a good start and put a marker down early on. I think we have a good chance of winning the league this season.
"Obviously the title is our aim and that would secure Champions League football for us next year, and I have confidence in the squad to be able to achieve that.
“We have brought in some quality players so there is a great balance in the side. All the lads are all hungry for success this season.”
The Lakesiders will bring a host of new faces to town after manager Colin Caton has turned over most of his squad after flirting with relegation last term.
Notable additions to the ranks are striker Lee Hunt, once of Bangor City and Rhyl, while the last man in this week is Mark Connolly, the Chester midfielder, who was on-loan at Maes Tegid in the second half of last season.
