Saints' Futsal out of step with samba rhythm
Saints' Futsal out of step with samba rhythm

THE New Saints crashed to a heavy defeat in their second Uefa Futsal Cup tie, losing 15-1 to a club called Geneva Futsal.
But it is little wonder that the host club wear yellow shirts, as their entire squad was made-up of Brazilians - and the TNS scholars simply had no answer to a relentless exhibition of traditional south American ball skills.
Star of the show was Clayton Pinheiro who grabbed a personal goal tally of five and the striker capped his display with a cheeky back-heel in the final seconds past keeper George Austin.
To their credit, the Saints held their opponents at bay until the seventh-minute when Prates opened the floodgates.
And their was little relief as Geneva mounted 40 shots on target, many of which were well dealt with by keepers Alex Ramsay and Austin.
The only moment of joy for TNS came in the 31st-minute when Naim Arsan scored - one of seven shots on target out of a total of 19 attempts.
The Saints were often guilty of yielding possession too easily and were swiftly punished by the home side but, in truth, they spent the majority of the game chasing 10 Brazilian shadows.
There may be more samba magic to come in the final group game on Friday night. TNS will face Irish outfit EID, who beaten Lithianians Nautara Kaunas 5-4, and also have several Brazilians in their line-up.
