Belle tolls for Saints at Port Talbot
Friday 19 August 2011
A 94TH-minute goal from Dylan Blain sank The New Saints after they had led 1-0 at Port Talbot's GenQuip Stadium.
Cortez Belle was the tormentor in chief, scoring the Steelmen's equaliser and then back-heeling a pass for Blain to blast the late winner.
The Saints played an attacking formation from the start and forced Paul Keddle to clear off the line inside the first five minutes.
Paul Cochlin also made a last-ditch challenge but the Saints took a deserved lead on 26 minutes when Matty Williams side-footed home for the opener.
Scott Ruscoe headed a Cochlin effort off the line but the hosts levelled seven minutes into the second half, when Simon Spender's clearance found Belle who knew little about his effort which defeated keeper Paul Harrison.
Chris Seargeant had home keeper Kris Rogers scrambling across his line and Keddle again cleared off the line.
But despite creating a host of chances the Saints were unable to make the breakthrough.
Belle fired past the post and then tested Harrison with a 25-yarder but, with home boss Mark Jones urging his side to take the ball into the corners to hold on to a point, the former Llanelli frontman teed up the ball for Blain to snatch a dramatic victory.
