Saints off the mark despite late scare

TNS v PrestatynTHE New Saints gained their first win of the new season with a 2-1 home success over Prestatyn Town.

But, after appearing to be in cruise control with a two-goal lead, they allowed the Seasiders back into the game in the latter stages.
Ross Stephens had the first chance of the game for the visitors, but fired over the bar, before TNS took the lead on the quarter hour.
Matty Williams notched his third goal of the campaign when he fired home a rebound after a back-header by defender Chris Davies was spilled by keeper Dave Roberts.
The gloveman made two superb saves from Nicky Ward, who was not to be denied after 30 minutes when Roberts could only parry a Craig Jones strike into his path.
Chris Seargeant went close to another before half-time when his 25-yarder shaved the post.
Roberts beat away a fierce Williams’ drive just after the break, and Ward went close to a second with a header from Simon Spenders' cross.
Greg Draper blazed over, but Williams missed a gilt-edged chance to add to his tally in the 68th minute when he dragged his shot wide with just the ‘keeper to beat.
Prestatyn almost made the Saints pay when Ross Stephens sent a glancing header wide of keeper Paul Harrison from a Davies’ cross after 78 minutes, but the Saints were able to close the game out and sub Alex Darlington almost added an audacious third when he spotted Roberts off his line, but his 40-yard lob bounced in front of the unguarded net and over the bar.
And Chris Sharp also went close with a shot that flashed just wide of a post.
