Welsh Premier: Away, Victoria Road, Port Talbot
Jamie Wood - on the mark again.
TNS maintained their superb start to the season and stayed top of the Welsh Premier with this 4-1 victory over Port Talbot.
This was Saints' seventh successive victory and extended their unbeaten away sequence to 24 matches.
Port Talbot forced a couple of early corners which came to nothing, but TNS gradually took control and it was no surprise when they gained the lead on 28 minutes.
Simon Davies fed Chris King on the left flank and he crossed for Jamie Wood to net his fifth League goal of the season at the far post.
Saints went further ahead in first half stoppage time.
Martyn Naylor aimed a corner from the right to Gary Brabin whose long-range shot bounced and deceived veteran 'keeper Gary Wager.
Talbot hit back on 57 minutes when Craig Hughes scored with a glancing header into the far corner of the net from Russ Wigley's free kick on the left.
But TNS restored their two-goal advantage within two minutes.
Chris King's fine cross from the left was headed across goal by Jamie Wood and Mike Wilde's shot found the target.
Substitute Steven Beck completed the victory when he headed in at the far post from another Chris King cross.
Saints played some excellent football and thoroughly deserved their win.
Aber maintain pressure
With a game in hand, TNS still hold a one-point advantage over second placed Aberystwyth Town, who beat Welshpool 5-0, despite a somewhat indifferent performance in front of a bumper Park Avenue crowd of 721.
Haverfordwest, beaten at Treflan on Saturday, resumed their best start for many years by moving into fifth place with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over depleted Cwmbran Town.
In the FAW Premier Cup, Newport County held Connah's Quay 1-1 on Deeside.
FEEDER UPDATE Ton Pentre currently head the Welsh League with 15 points from six games,
a point ahead of Grange Quins. In the Cymru Alliance, Airbus UK had already
opened up a five point gap with 22 from eight games, although second-placed
Glantraeth have a game in hand.
