Steve Evans again played a vital part for the Welsh semi-pro side
SAINTS' Steve Evans was prominent again in the Welsh semi-professional side on Thursday night.
The central defender turned provider for namesake Graham Evans of Caersws as the Welsh overturned England's National Game XI 2-0 in Keith.
Midfielder Scott Ruscoe was ruled out of the game by injury, to be replaced by Haverfordwest's Adie Harris.
And with Carmarthen stopper Tony Pennock also sidelined, deputy Tony Roberts was soon tested as a flashing 30-yarder hit the crossbar.
Steve Evans appeared to have put his side ahead when he fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from a partially-cleared corner, but it was ruled out by the referee for a foul.
But after Graham Evans had pulled an angled drive wide of a post on the half-hour, Wales took the lead seven minutes after the break.
Steve Evans got a vital touch for the Caersws hitman to squeeze his shot past the English keeper.
And with 17 minutes remaining, Porthmadog's Carl Owen - on as substitute for Graham Evans - grabbed a second after good work down the right to send Wales level at the top of the table with hosts Scotland.
A win over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday could see the Welsh regain the Four Nations trophy they won under Tomi Morgan in Boston two years ago.
