Narrow defeat for youth in cup final

THE New Saints went down to a narrow defeat in their first-ever appearance in the FAW Youth Cup final.

TNS lost 2-1 to seven times winners Swansea City, who have now lifted the trophy three seasons in a row.
The Swans nearly found themselves behind in the opening minute at The Airfield, but goalkeeper Ashley Elsey produced a fine save.
However, in what was a lacklustre opening period for the holders, Ryan Jones headed the Saints into a half-time lead before the Swans came out stronger in the second half.
After Kurtis March had a chance to level, the Swans did equalise on 63 minutes when Scott Tancock headed home.
And it was left to James Loveridge to convert the winner from a Gwion Edwards cross to send the trophy back to the Liberty Stadium.
But only a fine double save from keeper Elsey prevented the Saints from taking the game into extra-time.
