Saints lose their grip on Shropshire Cup

THE New Saints lost their grip on the Shropshire Cup after going down a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of AFC Telford United.

Director of football Craig Harrison rang the changes, with only Chris Seargeant retaining his place in the starting line-up from the eleven that started in the Champions League against Helsingborgs.
The revamped side held the Bucks until after the break, but the writing was on the wall earlier in the game.
Dan Preston headed over the bar from a Jay Smith free kick and former Saints' striker Chris Sharp beat Kai Edwards before unleashing a stinging shot which was palmed away by keeper Alex Ramsay.
TNS were mainly restricted to long range efforts with Nicky Ward lashing a 20-yarder over the target and Seargeant also missing from the same distance.
Scott Quigley created a shooting opportunity just after half-time but sent his effort wide of the near post before Telford took the lead.
Ryan Valentine dispossessed Ward and rounded Ramsay before sliding the ball home from a narrow angle.
Scott Ruscoe responded with a superb goal-bound effort from 20 yards that was saved by Ryan Young and then fired just over the bar from Connell Rawlinson's long ball.
But, after Ramsay have saved with his feet from Jake Reid, two goals in three minutes from Steve Jones settled the tie, the second a superb drive from Reid's inside pass.
